Brain and other nervous system cancer is the 10th leading cause of death for Both men and women. Despite its high prevalence and mortality rate there has only been 4 FDA approved drugs in the past 30 years.
Between 1998 and 2014 there were 78 investigation brain tumor drugs that entered the clinical trial evaluation process and 75 of them failed. The most common reason for failure is insufficient enrollment rates.
Despite there being NO FDA approved cure only 2-3% of cancer patients ever enroll in clinical trails. Standard care is still the main form of treatment even though only about 1/3 of all malignant brain tumor patients survive.
